【摘要】:Thistestmethodisdesignedforusebyatrainedsensorypanelexperiencedinusinganintensityscaleorrankorderingandfamiliarwiththedescriptiveterminologyandreferencesassociatedwiththepackagingmaterials.Dataanalysisandinterpretationshouldbeconductedbyatrainedandexperiencedsensoryprofessional.SeeRefs(3,4)fordiscussionsonpanelistscreeningandtraining.Thistestmethodshouldbeconsideredasascreeningtechniqueforsuppliersandend-userstouseinassessingtheodororflavorimpactorbothofrigidpackaging.TheapplicationofthistestmethodwillresultinaPPSorrankdata.Thedeterminationforsuitabilityofapackageforaparticularend-useshouldbebasedonasetofpredeterminedcriteriaincludingthePPSorrankscore.Informationobtainedfromthetransfertestscanalsobeusedtoevaluatetheoriginofanytransferredtastesorodors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversarecommendedprocedureforexaminingodororflavorpropertiesorbothofrigidpolymericpackagingclosuresandfillablematerials.1.2Thistestmethodcanbeusedforsinglematerialsorcoextrudedmaterialsthatarefoammolded,injectionmolded,blowmolded,compressionmolded,orthermoformedpolymers.1.3Thefocusofthistestmethodistheevaluationofmoldedpolymerintermsofthetransferofpackage-relatedodors,flavors,orboth,towaterandothermodelsystems(blandfoodsimulants).Rigidpackagingformsvaryconsiderablyintype,size,andshape.Thus,customizingtheexactprocedurefordealingwiththephysicalrequirementsforindividualpackagesistheresponsibilityoftheuser.1.4Thistestmethodassumestestingofthematerialsataone-timepoint;shelf-lifetestingisnotincluded.1.5RefertoTestMethodE1870fortheevaluationofinherentodorofpackagingmaterialbyconfinementtests.1.6Thistestmethodprovidessamplepreparationproceduresandtwomethodsofevaluation.1.6.1Thepackageperformancescoremethodallowsforthecomparisonofanymoldedpolymersampletoanother.1.6.2Therankingmethodallowsforcomparisonofsampleswithinthecurrentlytestedsetonly.1.6.3Thepreparationofsamplesisconsistentregardlessofthemethodofevaluationused.1.7Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.8Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
